Periodontology

Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the preservation of the periodontium.

The periodontium is the supporting tissue surrounding the teeth, which is responsible for its stability in the bone and for the proper transfer of forces during chewing and other functions in the oral cavity. It consists of:

- Bones

- Connective fibers (connecting the tooth to the bone)

- The surrounding mucosa (gingiva)

Periodontal diseases can be divided into two categories:

  1. Gingivitis – inflammation of the superficial gingiva (gums), which is treated with plaqueremoval and good oral hygiene
  2. Periodontitis – inflammation of all components of the supporting tissues of the tooth where the progression of the inflammatory process leads to loss of bone and connective fibers.

The most significant symptoms of periodontitis are:

- Mucosal bleeding when brushing your teeth (often the first symptom)

- Deep-red swollen mucosa

- Bad breath

- Increased tooth mobility (loose teeth)

- Withdrawal of the gingival margin (tooth looks longer than the others)

In our clinic, in collaboration with specialists in periodontology, we successfully treat all periodontal diseases.
